Klek, Croatia - holiday information

Klek Croatia - visitor information

Tourist settlement Klek is situated in a beautiful cove by the Adriatic highway, between Split and Dubrovnik. There is 91 kilometer to the Dubrovnik airport, 170 to Split airport, 71 to Dubrovnik and 143 to Split.
This settlement was once part of the Ragusa republic and port where people traded salt with the hinterland. Today, you can see the ruins of the tower Novković from the Venetian era, tombstones and necropolis from the 14th century. Just above Klek, you can see the remains of the Smrdan settlement from the 17th century. It was once a fort with city walls, from which people observed all the ship coming to the Neum cove, near Klek. Near this sight are ruins of the fort Gradina dating to pre-Roman times, from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the mouth of the river Neretva and the Peljesac peninsula. This settlement is sparsely inhabited, and the residents are mostly engaged in olive and fruit growing, while they mostly work in tourism during the summer.
Klek is a perfect vacationing spot for those who wish to spend a tranquil and relaxing holiday, especially families with children and couples. You can find accommodation in one of the apartments or rooms. There is also a large gravel beach, neatly kept and rich in contents. Along with sunbathing and swimming, there are also various sports facilities, and since Bosnia and Herzegovina border is quite near, you can visit the Catholic shrine Međugorje, or towns Mostar and Sarajevo. You can also take a one-day field trip to island Korcula, Makarska Riviera, or the old town of Dubrovnik.
